Converting waste heat into electricity
Can nanofluids increase the performance of ORC systems? Is it possible to extract additional heat thanks to innovative nanoparticles?
In collaboration with dr. Peter McGrail of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory we have experimentally determined the behaviour of the nanoparticle MIL101, a robust Metal Organic Heat Carrier, combined with the working fluid R245fa. The resulting semi-empirical correlations were adopted in a numerical model to analyse the impact of the nanoparticles on the ORC performance in terms of heat exchanger areas and net power output.
