Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers

The Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers Laboratory of the CheMaMSE group focuses its activites on: (i) the synthesis of anodic and cathodic electrocatalyst materials for applicationin low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers (T < 250 °C); and (ii) the assembly and characterization under operating conditions of fuel cell and electrolyzers prototypes comprising non-conventional functional materials.

Lithium Batteries and Beyond

The Battery Laboratory of the CheMaMSE group is equipped with the machines and instrumentation for the synthesis of electrode (cathodes and anodes) and electrolyte (in the Laboratory for Ion Conducting Materials) materials, and for their assembly and test under operating conditions in secondary (rechargeable) and primary (non-rechargeable) battery systems. Redox flow batteries are also developed at CheMaMSE.

Ion Conducting Materials for Energy Applications

The Ionic Conduction Materials Laboratory of the CheMaMSE group focuses its activities on the synthesis and the preliminary screening of electrolytic materials able to easily and selectively conduct only the desired ionic species. This allows for the realization of electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices with an improved performance and durability in comparison with the modern state of the art, including: (i) low-temperature fuel cells; (ii) secondary batteries; (iii) flow batteries; and (iv) dye-sensitized solar cells.

Study of the Composition/Structure/Properties Correlations in Materials

The Laboratory of for the Study of Composition/Structure/Property Correlations in Materials of the CheMaMSE group is furnished with a wide range of instrumentation and know-how for the study of the physico-chemical properties of materials and the correlations with their composition.

Study of the Electric Response Studies of Materials

The Laboratory for the Electric Response Studies of Materials of CheMaMSE group is equipped with different instrumentations and cells for the investigations on the electrical response of materials. In particular, these techniques permit to understand the conductivity mechanisms and the interplay between the chemico-physical properties and the dielectric relaxations and the electrode and interdomain polarizations of the materials.

Ab-initio Calculations, Molecular Modelling and Spectra Simulations of Molecules and Materials

The Laboratory for the Theoretical Studies of Chemico-physical Properties of Materials is equipped with the instrumentations and softwares designed to study the behavior of materials at the molecular and mesoscale levels which can then be coupled with the experimental results. In this way it is possible to correlate the chemico-physical properties of the materials (composition, oxidation state of the elements, etc.) and the structure (crystalline / amorphous, polymer conformation, etc.) with their macroscopic properties (conductivity, mechanic resistance, reactivity, etc.).
