Innovating for Sustainable Comfort and Resource Efficiency

The Department of Industrial Engineering hosted the CEN/TC126 meeting on building acoustics

From 8 to 11 April 2025, the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Padova hosted the CEN/TC126 Plenary Meeting, as well as the working sessions of WG2, WG5, and WG7.

CEN/TC126 is the European Technical Committee responsible for developing technical standards related to the acoustic properties of buildings and their components.

The standardisation activities in this field included:

  • laboratory test methods for the acoustic properties of building components,
  • rating of acoustic performance of individual elements,
  • field measurement methods for the acoustic performance of buildings,
  • procedures for determining overall building acoustic performance from component data.

The working groups addressed key topics for the building acoustics sector:

  • WG2 focused on the prediction of building acoustic performance based on the properties of construction elements;
  • WG7 worked on defining laboratory measurement methods for airborne and structure-borne noise produced by building services equipment;
  • WG5 handled coordination between the various working groups.

The participation of international experts and representatives from leading industrial and academic organisations made this meeting an essential event for advancing European standards in building acoustics.
