Antonino Di Bella elected Secretary-General of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA)

International Commission for Acoustics

Antonino Di Bella, Professor of Applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Applied Acoustics, and a member of the BETALAB Research Group at the University of Padua, has been elected Secretary General of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA).

The ICA represents a global network of national and regional societies active in all disciplines of acoustics, promoting the exchange of knowledge, collaboration between researchers and the development of common standards and initiatives.

The Commission operates under the auspices of the International Science Council (ISC) and plays a central role in connecting the scientific communities of over 50 countries. Its main activities include organising the International Congress on Acoustics, held every three years, supporting interdisciplinary research, promoting advanced training and supporting the publications and initiatives of its member societies. The ICA is also an affiliated commission of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and an affiliated organisation of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM).

The election of Antonino Di Bella to his third term as Secretary-General, representing the Acoustical Society of Italy (AIA), is a significant international recognition of the contributions of the Italian scientific community to the field of acoustics. The role of Secretary General is strategic for the Commission’s functioning: it involves coordinating activities between national associations, managing relationships with supranational bodies, and organising major scientific events.

The ICA is a unique platform for promoting global scientific cooperation in fields that touch key sectors, including the environment, health, and industry.
