Wireless Power Transfer

This research topic concerns the study, development and experimentation of contactless energy transfer systems devoted to the recharging of electric vehicle batteries. Both static and dynamic inductive systems are studied and tested.

COUPLED COILS

Power transfer occurs between two coupled coils. The dimensions and geometry of the coils have a decisive influence on the system performance.

COMPENSATION NETWORKS 

The sizing power, the efficiency, and the coils misalignment tolerance are optimized connecting passive networks to the coils.

HIGH FREQUENCY INVERTER

The transmitting coil is supplied  by a high frequency inverter. Proper technique for modulating the power switches  must be adopted to maximize efficiency and to control the transferred power.

CONTROL ALGORITHMS

The WPT system consists of several sections that interact with each other. It is necessary to develop control algorithms that ensure their synergic operations that protect the battery and the grid from unwanted solicitation.
