Electric Propulsion Facility
The electric propulsion test-facility @ CISAS has been specifically developed to test RF plasma thruster. The vacuum chamber is equipped to support both test with motor mounted inside the vacuum chamber and mounted outside the vacuum chamber to allow fast tests.
The facility is equipped with:
• Vacuum chamber with high capacity pumping system (12600 l/s)
• Different plasma diagnostic: RPA, Faraday probes, microwave interferometer ( developed in cooperation with ENEA Frascati), optical spectrometers
• V/I probes for RF network monitoring, and Network analyzer
• A moveable set-up to scan the plume parameters.
• Thrust balance in the range 0.1-10mN
The facility is capable of operating with different gasses as for example: Xe, Ar, CO2, N2, air, and Iodine.
Chemical Propulsion Facility
The Rocket Test Facility of DII is equipped with test benches and instrumentations to allow rocket testing up to 10kN of thrust.
Main characteristics are:
• Capability of operating with different type of oxidizer as O2, N2O, HTP
• Operational range from 1 N to 10 kN
• Broad heritage in testing mono-propellant / bi-propellant and hybrid rocket motors. Both operating in steady state and under throttling conditions.
