{"id":2771,"date":"2023-09-14T18:38:12","date_gmt":"2023-09-14T16:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.dii.unipd.it\/ceramglass\/?p=2771"},"modified":"2023-09-14T18:47:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T16:47:08","slug":"glams-building-on-the-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.dii.unipd.it\/ceramglass\/glams-building-on-the-moon\/","title":{"rendered":"GLAMS: building on the Moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Houston, we&#8217;ve had a <em>winner<\/em> here!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">We are proud and happy to share that the two year <a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unipd.it\/news\/glams-project-building-lunar-base-3d-printing-and-local-materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>GLAMS Project<\/strong> <strong>(Geopolimeri per Additive Manufacturing e Monitoraggio Lunare)<\/strong> of the University of Padova<\/a>, receives funding of over <em>400,000 euros<\/em> by the <strong>Italian Space Agency (ASI)<\/strong> as it ranks first in the thematic area &#8220;Advanced Materials&#8221; and overall winner of the &#8220;Days of Academic Space Research&#8221; call.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The project aims to create <em>structural elements<\/em> for the construction of lunar bases through a 3D printing approach that uses cement binders extracted from lunar soils (regolith). By exploiting locally available raw materials, the concept of the project is to <strong>minimize the costs and environmental impact<\/strong> due to the transport of raw materials from Earth to the Moon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">GLAMS Project holds a partnership with the <strong>Institute of Condensed Matter Chemistry and Energy Technologies of the CNR<\/strong> (ICMATE) based in Genoa and <strong>WASP<\/strong>, the Italian leader of 3D printing. The project includes Professor\u00a0<strong>Luca Valentini<\/strong>\u00a0of the Department of Geosciences as scientific manager, and Prof\u00a0<strong>Carlo Bettanini<\/strong>\u00a0and <a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/research.dii.unipd.it\/ceramglass\/people\/\">Dr.\u00a0<strong>Giorgia Franchin<\/strong><\/a> of the Department of Industrial Engineering who will lead the first phase of the project.
